A Few OnTop Scoring Methods...

(There are actually 20 methods. Download the Methods PDF for more info on the methods below, as well as other methods of play)

Traditional Scoring Method

    • Blue 0 Points (If your ball is not on top at end of round, no points are awarded)
  • Tower on Top Right
    • Blue 2 Points (2 points for the ball on top)
    • Red 0 Points (If your ball is not on top at end of round, no points are awarded)
Winner Take All Scoring Method

  • Tower on Top Right
    • Blue 5 Points (2 points for the top ball; 1 point for every other ball in the stack)
    • Red 0 Points (If your ball is not on top at end of round, no points are awarded)
Positional Point Scoring Method
Points are only awarded to the team on top at the end of the round & points are assigned based on their position in the stack (i.e. Ball in the 4th position is worth 4 points)
Missing Link Scoring Method
Points are only awarded to the team that finishes on top at the end of the round & points are based on the number of consecutive balls the winning team has from the top.
Poker Scoring Method
Points are awarded based on the traditional scoring method, except when the winning team has consecutive balls in the stack.
  • 3 of a Kind
    • 3 Points are awarded for each ball if all three are consecutive in the stack AND the team finished on top at the end of the round.
  • 2 of a Kind
    • 2 Points are awarded for each ball if there are 2 balls consecutively stacked AND the team finished on top at the end of the round.  2 Points are also awarded for the ball on top.
Scramble Method of Play
The illustration below is meant to be a top view of 2 OnTop towers.  The Scramble Method must be played with 2 towers.
  • Wherever the balls come to rest at the end of the round, becomes the launch point for the next round.  The team on top from the previous round would go first, and toss their ball that is furthest from the tower.
OnTop Golf
The winner of the "Hole" is the ball on top after all 6 balls have been tossed.
  • Winner of Hole with all 3 Balls in stack: Double Eagle (-3)
  • Winner of Hole with 2 Balls in stack: Eagle (-2)
  • Winner of Hole with 1 Ball in stack: Birdie (-1)
  • Loser of Hole with at least 1 Ball in Stack: Par (0)
  • No Balls in Tower at the end of the "hole": Bogie (+1)
OnTop Tenth Frame
Like the 10th Frame in Bowling, a player must toss their first and/or second ball in the tower in order to toss their third ball.
OnTop INSTANT WIN
(also called the Rudz Rule)
If, at the END of the round, a ball is perched on the top edge/rim, it is considered an instant win.
  • It must still be on the rim at the end of the round.  In other words, if either team knocks it off from one of their tosses before the round is over, it is no longer considered an instant win.
It is named after Mr. Rudz who played at a Beer Festival.  Mr. Rudz did not score any points for his team.  Towards the end of the match, when it looked like his team would be soundly defeated, Mr. Rudz tossed his final ball of the round onto the rim of the tower.  The players looked at me and asked, "How do you Score this?".  Never having seen it before, I said "That's an Instant Win!".....And the Rudz Rule was born.
Bonus Ball Feature
(refer to Methods PDF for more details)
...And speaking of the Rudz Rule Instant Win, there is a "Bonus Ball" option that can be used in combination with several methods.  A player can announce "Bonus Ball" prior to their final toss of the round.  If this ball is the ball on top of the stack at the end of the round, the players score is increased to that of their opponent.  So, if the score was 13-3 before the Bonus Ball toss, the score becomes 13-13.  Bonus Ball can be called once per match, per team.  But if the team makes their Bonus Ball toss but does not finish on top at the end of the round, they forfeit the match to their opponent.
